I met wonderful people. From the bottom of my heart: thank you!

What can you expect as a young person?

What can you expect as a young person?

This citytrip is part of civic service (MDT). You'll connect with seniors who enjoy being around people and learn to socialise outside your own bubble. Afterwards, you'll receive an MDT certificate. Around 15 seniors and 35 young people join this trip.

Please note: you're not a care companion, but during this trip you do commit to supporting the seniors. Your task is to make sure they feel comfortable and have a good time. You can be held accountable if you don't contribute enough to the mission of this trip.

Your contribution

Most of the cost is covered for you. We only ask for a personal contribution.

Included is:

  • Coach travel to and from Amsterdam Sloterdijk
  • Hotel (twin room with private bathroom)
  • Breakfast
  • Excursions
  • Dinner on the first evening
All young people (18–30 years)
€ 62,50

Bring your own spending money for lunch (every day) and dinner (2nd and 3rd day). You're free to choose where you eat.

Mandatory activities

The kick-off, introduction, activities during the trip, evaluation, reunion day and a meet-up with a senior are mandatory. During the trip you document your experience in writing or images.

What can you expect as a senior?

What can you expect as a senior?

Around 10–15 seniors aged 60+ join this trip. You're still active, able to go away for a weekend without help, and curious about conversations with young people. One or two care companions and Careibu staff also join the trip.

The young people joining are sociable and eager to make a difference for someone else. This trip is a success when young and old truly connect. That's why we count on your interest in the other group and your willingness to join the activities that the trip organising team has put together especially for you.

Your contribution

For seniors, we don't receive a contribution from MDT. Careibu covers part of the trip on your behalf.

Frequently asked questions for young people

Can I still sign up for Normandy?

No. This trip has already taken place. You can still sign up for the city trip to Paris in March 2027.

Why can I only sign up if I'm between 18 and 30?

Because this project is part of MDT. This programme is specifically intended for young people aged 18 to 30.

I really can't attend the introduction afternoon — can I still join the trip?

The introduction afternoon also counts towards the hours for the MDT project, so attendance is mandatory. If you really can't attend, you'll be placed on the reserve list.

What should I bring on a citytrip?
  • Cash/debit card for lunch, dinner and your own expenses
  • Valid ID card or passport
  • Comfortable shoes for lots of walking
  • Personal items (toiletries, clothing, etc.)
I've signed up — am I now automatically selected?

No, not right away. After signing up, you'll hear by email as soon as possible whether or not you've been selected. If you're selected, you'll get two options for an online kick-off where we explain the programme. We do select on a first-come, first-served basis, so don't wait too long to sign up.

What should I keep in mind during this trip?

We do everything we can to make the trip safe and smooth. Still, things can always happen. That's why:

  • Arrange your own travel insurance (not mandatory)
  • Follow the instructions of the supervisors and guides
  • We always look out for each other: safety comes first!
  • We hope you genuinely enjoy having a good chat and that you sign up because you want to step outside your own bubble!
Do you know a senior who is lonely and would like to join?

You're always welcome to suggest a senior who'd like to join. It's important to know: we invite people aged 65 and over who are still active and able to go away for a weekend without help. Unfortunately, wheelchair users cannot join.

Please let us know in advance if you know someone. Careibu makes the final decision on whether a spot is still available.
